Where to Volunteer
Carver Center Food Pantry Needs Volunteers
Since Carver has hundreds of adults and children who rely on our Food/Clothing Pantry, this is a daunting task and they need help to accomplish it.
Carver is looking for volunteers to help with stocking the pantry as donations come in.
Background:
The Carver Center is located nearby at 400 Westchester Avenue in Port Chester. It is a community center that offers programs and resources designed to meet the challenges of educational, recreational, cultural and civic needs of Port Chester families, with a particular focus on meeting the needs of underprivileged youth, and seniors.
RNNC volunteers work in the food pantry at the Center. In the pantry we help keep the food and clothing shelves stocked and organized, and we also help clients shop for these items at discounted prices. Pantry hours are as follows:
Monday: 9am-1pm
Tuesday: 4pm-8pm
Wednesday: 9am-1pm
Thursday: 4-8pm
Friday: 12pm-4pm
Carol is also working with several of the Carver Center board members in order to identify other ways that RNNC members can contribute to the organization. In addition to the Food Pantry there are a number of other programs that might be of interest. Currently, there are two action alerts at Carver:
1. If you or someone you know has experience in Social Work or counseling, the Carver Center is looking for volunteers to provide one-on-one mentoring with children, teens and adults.
2. Carver is trying to create “Quiet Zones” in some of their classrooms and is accepting donations of small area rugs and beanbag chairs.
If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information please email Carol. Carol will be more than happy to answer your questions and meet you at Carver to show you around! If you can give two hours during any of these days to help, it would be much appreciated. Feel free to bring a friend along. Once you have been a few times, it can be a great place to bring your children (8 and over) to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
If you would like to sign up for shift or join the weekly email loop that solicits help for the forthcoming week, please email Carol.
(Editor's Note: It is also a great place to donate your in-season clothes. It is always gratifying to unpack your donation and see it being taken eagerly by clients. Take your donations in at the hours mentioned above.)
